HBN Web App

Honey Bee Network is a crucible of like-minded individuals, innovators, farmers, scholars, academicians, policy makers, entrepreneurs and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The Network believes that a knowledge system in order to become sustainable has to be both just and fair. Hence, while collecting knowledge from the knowledge holder, the Network has made it a norm to acknowledge the knowledge provider with name and reference, if otherwise not desired by the knowledge provider.

The present HBN Website has a list of all the activities happening around the network, newsletter, join us etc. But it is missing the platform to fulfill the basic motive that the Network was made for: bringing innovators and their innovations together and bring them in the limelight.

PROBLEM:

1. Make an admin portal for the easy handling of the website.

2. Make it a database of all the innovations.

3. Make it easy for anybody to submit their innovation.

The Website:

Our aim was to design a website to achieve the following :

1. Register and join the Honey Bee Network as a member/volunteer.

2. Add innovations (can be done without registering but cannot be edited in that case).

3. See other people’s innovations and give a feedback on it.

4. Show all activities happening around the network.

5. A link to a magazine reading platform where people can read all the magazines.

Also, an innovation of the day is shown every day on the Homepage along with a Meet the Professor notification box which shows Professor Anil Gupta’s next location so that people can contact him if they want to meet him.

The Journey:

On 26th May, 2017 we were given a task of making the Honey Bee Network (HBN) Web-App. This seemed like a very difficult task and for 2 days we looked at the problem and figured out what to do and how to do it which was followed by making the first mind map. The main problem was that, the present HBN website was not focused on the main fundamentals of the Honey Bee Network i.e. to bring innovators and their innovations to limelight and also there was no admin portal through which latest data could be added. We were provided with a list of demands we had to meet inside the app and thus decided to make 6 main pages which would then lead to further sub-pages :

2. Innovations

3. Activities

4. About Us

5. Magazine

6. Forum

For the magazine part, we found that the platform ISSUU was already hosting the magazines published by the network and it is a very user-friendly platform. Thus, we integrated it with our website and the magazine bar leads to a link to this website. The last part is something we are not proud of as that is something which we could not do but have planned to keep working on; will be completed in a few weeks.

So, this was our journey- a little hard, a lot of fun and a lot of learning.
