20 May | Multi-Source Based Chulha

Our day two started with a brief discussion on Process flow diagram of Multi Source chullah. The discussion was mostly on increasing the energy efficiency by using waste energy to generate electric voltage using thermoelectric material (Seebeck Effect). Mind mapping was done on reducing the smoke, and thereby increasing the thermal efficiency of chullah. A visit to nearby house in Ghambharti was done to study different types of chullah. We had a brief interaction with family member about the chullah , type of fuel, quality of food, composition of chullah etc.

Major findings:

- They use 3 chulahs (one to boil water outside the house, one to bake bajra roti, sigdi to cook vegetables)

- About 5-6kgs of wood required to boil 10L water

- Kerosene is used for starting the fire

Then the group visited the FAB Lab to look at the stoves previously developed. There was one commertial chula designed to be portable, made from steel, and had a oxygen vent to aid combustion and had two compartments one to put the fuel and other to collect residue.

The evening session was with Prof Anil K Gupta, who gave valuable tips on approach of grassroot problem. Various research topics were discussed. The evening session was with Mr. Ted Moallem. He asked about progress in different projects. The day ended with finalization on mind-map of multisource chullah and preparation for next day visit.
